National Athletic Goods T-Shirts
Long before I opened This Thing Of Ours I bought my first National Athletic Goods T-Shirt on a business trip to the US. A brand I hadn't heard of before, at the time it was a pretty simple purchase fuelled by the obvious quality of the fabric and my unhealthy appetite for traditional athletic wear (preferably grey marl).
That one T-shirt has since turned into a bit of a love affair with the Canadian brand that meant once I took the decision to open the store National Athletic Goods was the first brand scribbled on my list of brands to target. That first T-shirt is now about 5 or 6 years old and has since been joined by more t-shirts and sweatshirts from the brand but that San Francisco purchase is still very much in my regular rotation. It's probably worn weekly, come rain or shine and looks and feels better now than it did fresh off the shelf.
It's hard not to get too evangelical about Nationals products. They specialise in premium athletic wear that nods to the heydays of American sports. Quite simply the attention to detail is top notch stuff.
Whether it's the authentic Rayon labels, flat lock seams, Talon zips or any of their specially made Japanese fabrics nothing is spared in the pursuit of recreating a quality standard of athletic wear that has long since been eroded by the major corporations.
It won't be for everyone, there will always be those that take the cheaper option in pursuit of "value", only for that garment to last a year or so before its resigned to the bottom drawer or charity shop at best.
For me the real value is in a garment that I know I want to wear every week for 5 or 6 years and counting. For that reason I know National Athletic Goods products will be part of the store and my wardrobe for a long time.
