ROA | A Space Where Luxury and the Outdoors Meet
Written by Ali George Hinkins
Footwear is the foundation of ROA’s existence and it is critical to the brand’s identity. When the brand began cropping up on Instagram in 2015, its designs were eye-catching, to say the least, as they sought inspiration from hiking footwear which had yet to succeed in the mainstream. But, ROA could see the tide changing, so they jumped on it and have been riding it since.
Founded in 2015 by designer Maurizio Quaglia, ROA occupies a grey area between functional and luxury design. Borrowing the same functionalities we see in outdoor products and embedding them into apparel, accessories and footwear, the brand marks its territory as each collection comes and goes. This time last year saw ROA further its resume as it embarked on a journey to pursue apparel and accessories with the aid of Patrick Stangbye (Creative Director).
Separating them from others in the luxury footwear space is their unwavering commitment to combining form and function by using high-quality materials and adopting technical features like Vibram soles. Certain models, such as the Katharina and Lhakpa, feature the necessary technical elements that allow them to be worn anywhere from the city to the mountains without looking out of place.
This Thing of Ours has just received its A/W delivery of ROA footwear which replenishes its supply of Neal Alpine and Katharina Approach shoes with updated constructions and colourways while welcoming in the Chelsea Boots and Teri Boots that are new for the retailer.
