‘Tools for Mindful Athletes’
As Spring looms around the corner, so does, hopefully, brighter and warmer weather which increases the need to protect our eyes from the sun - arguably, one of the most important parts of the human body. One brand prioritising both physical and mental wellbeing through their meticulously crafted goods is District Vision.
District Vision is a New York-based label providing function-focused tools and apparel to conscientious individuals who seek to protect their bodies from the elements they face during exercise. Starting in 2013, District Vision is informed by first-hand feedback from runners in downtown New York coupled with the finest Japanese engineering and craftsmanship - two traits synonymous with Japanese design. Leaning on tried-and-tested reports from their desired audience, they have finely tuned their products, whether it’s eyewear or shell jackets, to meet the demands of the environment they are in.
Marking a first for the retailer, This Thing of Ours is the recipient of a number of key eyewear styles from District Vision, including their Junya Racer, Takeyoshi Altitude Master and Koharu Eclipse that come with different tints and technical nuances. Out of all the styles, the Takeyoshi Altitude, with the ‘Water Grey’ and ‘Black Rose’ tint, is perhaps the most wearable on a day-to-day basis, but it is equally as functional as its counterparts thanks to a lightweight nylon/titanium frame and all the bells-and-whistles that come along with the finish on the lens. Taking clear inspiration from racing-inspired and performance-oriented eyewear styles, the Junya Racer features a hypoallergenic nose pad, lightweight nylon frame with titanium reinforcement and ergonomic fitment. The aforementioned is available in a choice of Black/G15 and Clear/Black Rose. Lastly, the Koharu Eclipse adopts a similar style sports frame with many of the same technical features that allow District Vision to seamlessly balance form and function. Separating them from the rest of the other pairs is a mirrored finish.
One thing that all the models share in common is the usage of District Vision’s D+ lens technology that is constructed from a proprietary form of polycarbonate that is shatterproof. On the inside of the lens is an anti-reflective application that is essential for eye protection and an oleophobic finishing on the exterior makes it water and oil repellent - essentials for a pair of functional lenses. Finishing cosmetic touches come by way of District Vision branding on the top of the lens and ‘Performance Eyewear’ printed on the arm.
