New Brand: Jean-Luc A. Lavelle Autumn/Winter ‘22 Exclusive to This Thing of Ours
Written by Ali George Hinkins
Marking the designer's debut collection under his own name, Jean-Luc’s Autumn/Winter ‘22 collection will be exclusively available in the UK from This Thing of Ours and is expected to be in store from September.
From the outside looking in, the last 3 years for Jean-Luc have been a whirlwind. From learning to design with no prior background or formal training, to working as an external designer for Goldwin 0 to debuting his Spring/Summer ‘23 collection alongside a collaboration with ROA during Paris Fashion Week. The word busy would be an understatement but he has gone from strength to strength in a seemingly short period of time, along the way garnering a cult-like following on Instagram amongst technical wear enthusiasts.
Scrolling through his comment section, you will find it is littered with statements from those desperate to get their hands on his creations which, up until this point, have never been available to the public. Now, the people are finally getting what they want after years of eager anticipation.
If you aren’t necessarily in the know with regards to his design vision, his conceptions often marry functionality and aesthetics with cues taken from sportswear silhouettes. If I had to sum it up succinctly, I’d go for something like ‘Technical Sportswear’ given the consideration for ergonomic construction, three-layered fabrics and seam taping - on the exterior and interior, balancing both form and function. He makes good use of deadstock fabrics, waterproof laminated zippers, cord-adjusted detailing and recycled hardware, making sustainability a conscious part of his process.
At This Thing of Ours, the offering will consist of the following pieces: the track pant and tops, t-shirt, cap and, arguably the crowning jewel of the collection that many of us have been lusting over since it first graced our screens, the reversible 3L shell jacket with reflective seam taping.
This Thing of Ours will be the only stockist of his debut collection in the UK and one of a handful worldwide. Stay tuned for updates regarding a more detailed release date.
